Jackson Hole, Wyoming

Thanks to COVID, we got to explore Jackson Hole, Wyoming and completely fell in love with the area. This wasn’t a location that was on my radar, but vacation plans were limited during the pandemic.

Since it was COVID and we had three small children, we decided to drive instead of fly. During COVID-19, while flights were inexpensive, there were two connections from CA to WY, which would have totaled 15 hours in travel time, and it only took 13 hours to drive there. This is an important travel consideration when planning a trip. Sometimes, what feels like the fastest isn’t always.

While 13 hours in the car with three little kids doesn’t sound like a vacation, we were up for the challenge. We also penciled in some stops along the way in Boise, Idaho, to visit some friends, Twin Falls, Idaho (to see Shoshone Falls), and the Snake River. The scenery was breathtaking. As we drove close to Jackson, the rolling hills landscape was so peaceful. Then, coming down the pass into Jackson was incredible. We live near Lake Tahoe and often take the beauty for granted. As we drove through Jackson Hole mountains, I was reminded of the beauty there. The difference is it doesn’t have the overpopulated feel that Tahoe sometimes has.

We opted to stay at a resort called Spring Creek Ranch. It was a beautiful lodge with views of the Grand Tetons. It is also a bit away from the town and has a pool and other amenities. The town itself is simply adorable. With cute shops and restaurants all facing a town square where you can relax and let your kids run around. We were partial to Cowboy Coffee in the mornings, which served great coffee and breakfast sandwiches. We also became fans of Moo’s Ice Creamery. One day, we traveled over to The Grand Tetons Resort area, which had lots of restaurants and great play areas for kids to roam around.

There are many outdoor activities and adventures in Jackson Hole (rafting, biking, hiking, skiing, snowshoeing, etc.). One of the most spectacular things to do is visit the Grand Tetons National Park and Yellowstone. Our kids have always been big animal lovers, so we chose a private safari. This was an experience! We were picked up early, around 6:30 am, and our guide drove us into the Grand Tetons park. Over the course of three hours, we saw a bald Eagle, Moose, Deer, Bison, Elk, Coyote, and some of the most beautiful lakes and scenery. Our kids didn’t even need binoculars. We could get close and stay quiet enough to observe the animals in their habitats. It was truly magical. The best part was that, toward the end of the tour, we encountered a bison brawl (during their mating season). This was a highlight for my two boys. We also enjoyed the hot springs in Yellowstone and the Geiser. Additionally, the Jackson Hole area has miles and miles of biking trails. We highly recommend renting a bike and cruising around. You will undoubtedly encounter some great views and wildlife.

What I loved most was how peaceful it was to be surrounded by so much nature. It does the soul good! If you are looking to book your next trip and want assistance, we would love to be part of your journey and help you book the trip of your dreams
